Korean Society of Toxicologic Pathology

Jae-Ho Shin

Toxicology is currently undergoing a major transition. Along with the development of hardware such as microscopes and cameras, analysis software is also becoming more sophisticated. In addition, innovative developments that apply new scientific technologies such as artificial intelligence to diagnosis are already beginning. And, as the number of domestic non-clinical testing institutions increases, the demand for toxicology experts is increasing, but in reality, there is a shortage of experts.

I feel a heavy sense of duty and responsibility in taking on the role of president of the society at a time when we must overcome this difficult environment both internally and externally and promote the society's continued development. I would like to carry out my duties as president, believing in the power of the Korean Society of Toxicological Pathology and the active participation and support of its members.

This society celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. Using this commemorative year as a new starting point, I would like to tackle the following four tasks in order for this society to make a significant contribution to the development of toxic pathology in our country.

First, we will strive to become a toxicology pathology society that supports the advancement of science and technology. We will further enhance academic events such as educational programs and lectures so that we can share new technologies along with the experience accumulated so far. We will strengthen cooperation with foreign academic societies and allow foreign experts to participate in this academic society and serve as a stepping stone for the internationalization of the academic society through exchanges with Korean experts.

Second, we will establish a communication and cooperation system. In particular, as nurturing young researchers is an important task that determines the future of the society, the society's 100-year plan can only be achieved if researchers with an interest in toxicological pathology can enter smoothly. Therefore, the society provides opportunities for them to conduct research and present papers. We will strive to provide opportunities and provide a foundation for networking.

Third, we will strengthen partnerships and cooperation between industry, government, and academia. It is no exaggeration to say that toxicology is an academic society that was born during the collaboration between industry, government, and academia, and we would like to actively promote industry, government, and academia partnerships based on this historical background. In order to achieve this goal, we will launch a committee to promote large-scale projects, concentrate discussions as an academic society, and actively make activities and suggestions to each relevant ministry to draft large-scale projects.

Lastly, stabilizing finances is a big task for an academic society. Since a solid financial foundation is necessary to run a sound academic society, I would like to strengthen finances through in-depth and multifaceted discussions with the senior president and executives. We hope that the Korean Society of Toxicology and Pathology will grow further through the active participation of our members.

Thank you
